I had a great experience working for Simply English. The visa process was quick and simple, and they helped get me up to speed pretty quickly. The staff and upper-level management were welcoming and collegial—all-around easy-to-deal-with people, both personally and professionally. The company provided an immediate social scene of both ex-pat teachers and local staff that really fostered the cultural experience I was seeking. I especially enjoyed teaching in the classroom at the two schools I was paired with. I was less keen on the private lessons, but that was more personal preference than anything else. Getting the opportunity to teach English abroad was everything I hoped the experience would be, and I feel ever grateful to Simply English for facilitating that for me. My only regret is that my time in Moscow was cut short by the pandemic—I wish I could have stayed longer. Salary, hours, etc.: Pay was competitive relative to my teaching qualifications. I worked between 20 and 25 teaching hours per week. For me, this generally meant a 40-50 hour work week, though a more experienced teacher might be able to lesson plan more efficiently and cut that time down a bit. The company covered the cost of public transportation and medical insurance as part of the contract. Three paid sick days and one paid personal day per semester. Admin staff were always on the ball and very helpful guiding me through tasks that would have been difficult to handle on my own, such as setting up a medical appointment when I fell ill. I would definitely recommend the company to anyone looking for a job teaching English abroad.

A great company to work for, very accommodating and honest. Work has a good variety to it and there is a great social aspect to the company. They make living in Moscow extremely enjoyable.

Simply English helped me a great deal and offered me my first teaching experience in Russia. From meeting me at the airport to helping me with medical queries, apartment issues and teaching materials it was always easy to contact someone in the office and get support. I was firstly assigned to a number of schools in Moscow and was travelling around the Moscow area, which wasn't ideal but I was aware this was part of the deal and could be expected in my first year. For instance, some days I might start at 8:30 and my last class would start at 7:45 and there would be some larger gaps in between. These could make for some tiring days but eventually I had the opportunity to work in just one school outside of Moscow from Monday to Friday. I understand this isn't the opportunity for everyone but I really appreciated the chance to work with the same classes each day from 8 to 5 and this was the highlight of my teaching with Simply English. It seems if you work hard, build good rapport with your students and colleagues and are reliable then good things will come your way. Even when encountering difficult school directors it felt like the support staff at SE were on my side and willing to put in the work to smooth things out. All in all I'd recommend it anyone who wants to experience teaching in Moscow as so much admin and paperwork is handled on your behalf by the team. Much appreciated!

Teaching and living in Moscow the last ten months was my first experience working abroad. The decision to work for Simply English was great and I very much enjoyed living and working in Moscow. Almost everyone I met in Moscow was warm and friendly. I was constantly amazed at how many Russians I would encounter who spoke just a little English. I had no trouble navigating the city or finding what I needed to live and enjoy Moscow. It was a little frustrating not receiving timely information or feedback about my students or my teaching skills from the private school. I do get the sense this is common with Russian schools and not unique about my private school. It was also a little frustrating to work with the medical clinics to get the medicine I needed, but with staff support from Simply English, everything did work out well. Teaching the kids at the private school was a wonderful experience and one I will never forget. I will always have fond memories of my time living and working in Moscow.

Refreshingly friendly company with its own multifaceted curriculum and all sorts of teaching gigs on offer (business English, kindergarten classes, private students and so on). The staff are very helpful, the apartments are comfortable and the social calendar is very generous! Highly recommended.

I have really enjoyed working for Simply English because they provided me with all the support needed for a native English speaker to live and work very happily and comfortably in Moscow. The wide variety of materials, applications. toys and printing at no extra cost allows the teachers to think of creative and enjoyable lessons for their students. The office staff are very understanding, warm and happy to sit and help by offering effective lesson plan solutions. Every fortnight there is a Simply English event organised for office and teacher staff which have been a great way to make friends. Events range from pizza parties and ice skating to weekend trip to another town. I'd really recommend anyone considering to work as an ESL teacher in Moscow to apply!

They want you to succeed as a teacher but also to adjust well to the culture and have a good year. I worked for Simply English for several months as a manager and can say that the team is a very professional, loyal and nice to work with. Directors of the company are great, you can learn a lot from them. When working for Simply English I practiced my English and developed soft skills that was very useful and important for me.

Working at Simply English you are lucky to be part of a really supportive team. The team in the office are there to help you and inspire you with all teaching and living in Moscow needs. The other teachers have lived in places all over the world, and you get a chance to get to know them through a variety of Simply English events (office parties, museum trips). I felt grateful to be part of this supportive and talented and friendly network.

If you are considering working for them, find a different company. They lie; they also do not pay well. The owner doesn't care about you, he doesn't care that he has potentially given you the world’s worst schedule and shoved you into an apartment with three strangers without considering that you may not get on with them. The company has terrible communication; they will throw a class at you with little to no notice. They demand that you acknowledge their correspondence, to the point where its written into your “contract” but simply wont answer your questions or so much as acknowledge that there is a problem. Moscow is an incredible experience. But please, do your self a favour and find a different company to teach with and experience Moscow through. The majority of the staff are fairly pleasant, however you get the feeling that misdirection and miscommunication is the way they treat you, so that at no point are you able to get a handle on what’s actually going on, or whether you’re a teacher or fertiliser.

Teaching English as a foreign language always comes with a mixed bag of challenges and surprises and this is never more true than becoming culturally emerged in Moscow. This beautiful city functions as slickly as any of its European counterparts but is also just 'strange' and different enough to be interesting. I love it here and one of the big deciding factors for staying another year has been working for Simply English. However you slice it this is a great company, they are really 'pro the teachers' and you have constant support and the invaluable advice from both native and foreign staff. Everyone is super professional and it is clear to see why the business continues to grow, trading as it does on its excellent reputation. I am very proud to be part of the team here. However, this is not a gig for a flaky backpacker just passing through Russia. You are treated as a professional and thus expected to conduct yourself appropriately and do a good job. The work is hard with long hours both teaching and planning and the commutes are challenging but there is so much to be gained from this experience. It is always hard to know what a company will be like to actually work for but in honesty I am surprised myself with what a great bunch of people I have the pleasure to work with and how happy I am to be in Moscow.

You work at many schools and kindergartens around Moscow, so you have a chance to really get to know the city. The commuting can be tiring, but the Moscow metro is beautiful and efficient. I’ve been working here for almost two years and I absolutely love it.

I enjoyed my year, didn't have any issues with the company, and feel like I've grown as a person and a teacher as my contract is coming to an end. For me, that's enough to conclude that I'm happy to have come to Moscow to work with Simply English. Granted, this is my first teaching job and I've only just graduated from university, so I don't have any point of reference/earlier relevant experience in order to objectively state whether SE is really a good company to work for or not so far as teaching positions go. It was a good year for me, but maybe I'd feel different if I had been teaching for five years already. That in mind, please consider my post as being directed towards new/inexperienced teachers. My subjective opinion is that I came without much teaching experience and was nervous about being a teacher; I was met where I was at, given a variety of different class types so I could get a feel for what I liked/felt comfortable with (then was given mostly those type of classes), I felt listened to and understood when I voiced worries about my situation here (tough year for my family) or insecurities about myself as a teacher, found a helpful staff that readily supported me with any issues I had and also a quite thorough curriculum for each class type/age group to help guide my lesson plans. As an inexperienced teacher open to all the help he could get, SE offered a pair of sturdy hands to help me find the ropes, and I think it was a really good place to get started as a teacher. From a living quality perspective, I think that SE has really put effort into supporting its teachers with life in Moscow, so I wanted to specifically point this out. Teachers will be picked up from the airport and delivered to company-owned housing where they'll live with two other teachers, you're assisted with creating a bank account, and one staff member's job seems to mostly revolve around supporting teachers with whatever cultural or language problems that might come up -- so the process of getting around Moscow, finding a place to save your paycheck, and finding a place to live is a non-problem. Need to go to the doctor but don't speak Russian? Call the office, someone will go with you. Confused by your phone contract or need help figuring out how to send something via the Russian post? The office will help. Life in Russia takes some time to adjust to, but SE does what it can to make the transition smooth. Days were quite long due to traveling between classes (At most I had 3 lessons per day) -- I spent 2-4 hours daily on the metro (but the company provides an unlimited public transportation pass, so it's free) and normally had 10-12 hour days (with one lighter day where I only had one night class; on this day I planned for the week). I enjoy reading so the metro wasn't an issue, though I'd have liked a more consolidated schedule so I could have had a few hours to myself in the morning or evening. I'm leaving for personal reasons that require me being elsewhere in the world; if I were to stay in Russia for another year or two, I'd be happy to re-contract and stay with SE.

I've greatly enjoyed working for Simply English! They try to take care of the teachers and the staff has very low turnover, if any. This creates continuity and development of relationships. I would highly recommend this company for anyone looking to teach in Moscow.

A very professional company to work for. Simply English arranges the visas, accommodation, sim cards and a thorough induction, and so getting set up in Moscow is remarkably easy. Things I have particularly appreciated working with Simply English: 1. As a member of staff, I have felt valued and supported. Everyone in the SE office is extremely friendly, fun, and always only too happy to help with any issues (teaching, accommodation, medical etc.) 2. The company supplies a great bank of teaching resources and schemes of work to guide teachers through the academic year. At the same time, individual creativity is encouraged, and so we have a great deal of freedom in how and what we teach. There is a nice atmosphere of sharing of ideas within the company as well. 3. The weekly Russian lessons put on by the company. I've loved those. (Thanks, Svetlana!) 4. Travel around Moscow, including on weekends, is paid by the company which is a nice added perk if you're keen to get out and explore this amazing city. Most students are very keen to learn, lots of fun and a joy to teach. Some student behaviour can be challenging; coming prepared with some classroom management strategies will help (as will a sense of humour!). And the SE office staff are always on hand with support and advice if there are issues. I've worked hard this year, but have gained a wealth of new teaching experience and have had plenty freedom to enjoy Moscow. Perhaps most crucially, I have met some wonderful people at Simply English whom I sincerely hope will be life-long friends.

Working for Simply English is great, you work in a variety of settings with different groups and it adds to the excitement. Some days commuting around Moscow can try your patience, but most days I enjoy the time as a nice reading break. The children I work with are from a lot of different countries and a lot of fun. Simply English supports their teachers in all areas, with as much or little help as you need. The subsidized housing makes your life easier, no bills to think about, and each apartment has its own printer. The company sponsored events are fantastic and a wonderful time to meet with other teachers.

I've been working for Simply English since January 2018. I would say the best thing about working for Simply English is that they make things as convenient for us teachers as possible. They have a general guide you can follow for lessons, but you have a lot of flexibility. If there are behavioral problems at a school, you can tell the staff at Simply English and they will do their best to work with the school to solve the issue. You don't have to worry about how you'll pay your bills if you use the subsidized housing, which is a load off my mind. There are a good amount of company events you can attend as well. The staff and other teachers are incredibly friendly, so if you're worried about being lonely you shouldn't be. The commute can be hefty, but you see a good amount of Moscow. Many metro stations are gorgeous so walking through them tends to be worth it, to me. Ultimately, Simply English is a great choice for someone who wants to teach English in Moscow.

The finest place to teach and learn in Moscow! This is my second year teaching with Simply English and I am planning on continuing for further years to come. The students are lively and pleasant and there is always enthusiasm from them every day in class. The schools are accommodating with your needs and hospitable to make you feel at home. Simply English staff members are always constructive, helpful, and supportive with everything you need and go out of their way to make you feel welcome.

If you're a teacher, I would highly recommend that you come work at Simply English. Every job has its good days and bad days, but our boss Jack really tries to make sure that there are more good days than bad days. Working here you'll feel properly compensated for all your work and never asked to do something that seems unfair. This job involves commuting all around the city to different schools, which can be both exhausting and very interesting. Overall, it's a great place to work and I recommend it!

I've been working at Simply English since September 2017 and have accepted a job offer with them for the following year. It is not for the faint of heart: you are likely to be commuting a lot and your days can be long, but you have a lot of support from the office. Everyone at the company is lovely and there's a really good atmosphere whenever you go into the office. I have really loved my schools this year and have requested to teach at one of them again NEXT year because they are so great. The salary is more than enough to live on in Moscow and accommodation is subsidised... you don't even need to think about bills or internet. Overall, I have enjoyed my time working at Simply English and am looking forward to another year with them.

I worked for Simply English from September 2014-May 2015. Living and working in Moscow was both a wonderful and challenging experience that I'm really grateful for. The nature of Simply English is very personal; managers there take you to your apartment, show you the area, show you how to get to the office, and take you to each new client. This is really important in a city that can be intimidating and difficult to navigate at first when you don't speak Russian. From the beginning, I was asked for feedback and things they could improve on; the company really cares about creating a positive experience for its teachers. This was also evident through things like staff dinners and the efforts the company made to help us when the ruble started crashing that year. The nature of the job makes days long, which I found very tiring. Some people are more suited to this kind of schedule than others, though. I only had about 20 teaching hours a week but they were spread out, often with 2 or 3 hour gaps. This was a great thing for seeing the city; I saw so much of Moscow, and I still feel like there is more to see there. It also meant going into people's homes for private lessons and different schools for classes, which was very interesting. If you're interested in Russian culture and seeing Moscow, this is a caring company and good way to really get to know Moscow.

Working for Simply English has been both a rewarding and challenging experience. I've been working for this company for over a year now and have taught a wide variety of students in a multitude of settings, ranging from individual lessons with toddlers to kindergartens, to adult lessons, and most everything in between. This job requires a lot of flexibility in both teaching preparation and scheduling. Teachers are scheduled for up to 25 hours over 5 days a week between 9am to 9pm, and these hours don't include the time it takes to commute from one place to the next. I spent nearly as much time commuting as I did teaching some weeks during my first year at the company, and my schedule was prone to change from one week to the next (I recommend getting an e-reader to help pass the time during commutes). They really appreciate returning teachers and I've had a much more regular schedule my second year, as well as more say in who/where/when I teach. The office is staffed with great people who always make you feel comfortable coming in and asking any questions. Overall I've had a positive experience and I feel like I've been able to grow as a more well-rounded teacher.

Hello everyone, I worked for Simply English in 2014-15 and now I've just returned for the 2016-17 academic year. Moscow can be a pretty intimidating city at first glance but within a few days I felt very much at home. I attribute this to the institutional framework and personal touch of the administration team which, when I started, consisted of only three people but has now grown to seven. The working atmosphere between administration and teachers is serious and professional, but at the same time there is a personal touch which fosters a family environment. We all live close to each other and get on well. The pedagogical support is exceptional, whether you're a new or an experienced teacher. The apartments are clean, safe and in good neighborhoods, walking distance to the metro (which we are given unlimited, free access to). The salary includes subsidized housing which we share with 2 other teachers and which is, by comparison to other schools in Moscow, very competitive and with lots of opportunity for overtime. Furthermore, contrary to some popular misconceptions about Russian employers, I have always been paid on time and in full. When you get to know Jack and Sergey (the two main directors) you know they are serious about looking out for their teacher's best interests (again, this is something that cannot be said of many ESL schools in Moscow, or indeed, the world). Of course, Moscow is not for everybody. The winters are long, the subways are crowded but if you're at all interested in coming to Moscow to work I would strongly recommend Simply English. I decided last year that I wanted to return and I would not have thought twice about working for any other school. And I think that says a lot! :)

I worked for Simply English for an academic year in 2015 and, having worked for English Language Schools in Japan and the UK, it is one of the best schools I have worked for. The management is great, very helpful and always on hand to help. They also have a number of Russian managers who are always available to help you if you need a Russian speaker. Someone is available in case of emergencies 24 hours a day. Simply English organise your work visa and take care of the bureaucratic side of things once you arrive in Moscow. Russian lessons are also available for free, but I would recommend having a basic grasp of some Russian before moving to Moscow, especially learn how to read Cyrillic, as it will make your life, the Russian managers life (so you don't ring them about stupid things like how to order a coffee or something) and your work life so much more hassle free. Housing is also organised by the company for very cheap rent compared to if you were renting yourself. All housing is on the metro, so you are in Moscow proper, now somewhere out in the Oblast. I would say on average, most of the flats are about 20-25 minutes metro ride from Площадь Революции station, basically the station next to Red Square slap bang in the centre. You share a flat with 1 or 2 other people. The flats, by Western standards, aren't amazingly modern but they certainly aren't dives either. On the whole, they are comparable to what a normal Russian family will be living in. Most people in Moscow live in Soviet era tower blocks- which can look a bit daunting from outside if you haven't been to Russia before. However, they are usually inhabited by grannies, families and kids, so areas are very safe, and they look a lot better inside. Teaching at Simply English can be very varied, from kindergarten lessons, to high school kids, to adult private lessons. You generally will have a mix of school and private lessons. Be warned, there is a lot of commuting in this job, as with most TEFL work, and an average daily commute can be up to an hour each way from where you live. However, saying this, you do get to see all of Moscow and many places non-Russians wouldn't visit. Russian families are very welcoming into their homes, and during lessons I was often fed and given a drink. The same goes with schools. You will also probably have to work evenings, and get home around 7-9pm. Again, this is pretty common in TEFL work. It really depends on your schedule, as each teacher has a very different schedule. For example, I mostly taught teenagers in schools and had some private clients, whereas my flat mate had all private clients and some kindergarten lessons. The company pays well and, with the fact you have cheap rent and bills taken out of your paycheck, I was making more money per month than some friends I knew who worked for other companies. You are paid in cash every 2 weeks, but I think now the company open up a Russian bank account for you and have some kind of health insurance, as there have been changes in Russian law. Overall, I would recommend Simply English as a good company to work for in Moscow, as it is ran by Westerners and genuinely does care about teachers' well being. Its a great way to see one of the most beautiful and amazing cities in the world (Москва!) without having to jump through hoops for your tourist visa and it beats working for some rubbish, exploitative language school in rural China or Vietnam. Plus, you can go and see Lenin's mummified corpse if that's your thing (it was mine)!

I have worked with Simply English for almost 9 months now and it has been an interesting company to work for; it's a small company so it is easy to chat with everyone. The work is often very varied, you may work one-on-one with young children or groups of older students. This means you'll be tasked with many differing levels so you must be prepared for everything. You will see lots of Moscow and probably have lots of great students (who will feed you pancakes for breakfast for example) but for some the timetable can be challenging but it always depends on what classes are available. There are lots of materials to use in the office and you will be given lots of freedom to create classes how you wish and if you have trouble you can always get good advice on what to do. They pay on time and I have had no problem with the visa process or anything related in those matters.

Working at Simply English is a challenging but rewarding experience. If you are serious about teaching English, it's a great place to gain invaluable classroom experience. You'll be working in prestigious state and private schools, as well as in kindergartens, and with some pretty fancy private clients as well. I actually taught a pretty famous Russian Movie Star's kids! Also, Simply English is a unique company with lots of fun programs to teach like arts and crafts, drama, and science, where creative teachers can really develop their craft. It made me a much more flexible, dynamic teacher, and I really enjoyed my time there! I'd recommend Simply English to adventurous, creative, confident teachers looking for a place to really grow as a teacher!
