On June 17, 2012, on the Sunday of All Saints who shone in the Russian land, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill performed the rite of consecration of the temple in the name of the blessed Prince Igor of Chernigov. The life of this saint took place in the 12th century. It was a difficult and sorrowful time of internecine wars. Saint Igor, against his will, found himself in the very center of events, became a victim of treason and betrayal. Not wanting to involve his people in a bloody, fratricidal struggle for power, the prince became a monk and suffered martyrdom at the hands of his political enemies. Prince Igor is a bright and outstanding representative of Holy Rus', its true patriot and ascetic. He is for us the personification of Christian wisdom and selfless service to Christ. His self-denial and unshakable faith in the ideals of the Savior made it possible to save many compatriots from needless death and bring peace to his people.
