My husband and I decided that living in St. Petersburg is worth it just for the opportunity to send our child to this kindergarten. Based on a recommendation, we enrolled our bilingual son here when we had to come for six months from California, where he was born and had lived all his life, due to family circumstances. At first, we had serious doubts. But now, we’re seriously considering moving here permanently while our son is still preschool-aged. This kindergarten is special. It’s imbued with respect for the Child and the World. Real scientists are invited to the kindergarten, and the kids conduct experiments with them. Or — unexpectedly — musicians from the Philharmonic come to visit. And then they go on a field trip to an ice cream factory: exploring it with both their eyes and their taste buds! No kindergarten in Silicon Valley can even compare to this one, believe me. But the most important thing, of course, is the teachers. Energetic, joyful, respectful, yet guiding and nurturing. They deserve the deepest gratitude. Interestingly, in the afternoons, some of the teachers are men. They are such strong role models! My husband and I had tried everything to get our child to dress himself, but after just a couple of months with one of the male teachers at the kindergarten, our son refuses to let anyone help him dress anymore. And, by the way, he has never brought home a bad word or bad behavior from the kindergarten. Only friends!
